Never has any sports fest witnessed such tumultuous and tremendous zeal and excitement as this fifth edition of Virudhaka is exhibiting now. Over 500 participants and 20 law institutes from all over India braced themselves for the serious sporting action National Law Institute University, Bhopal is proffering. Right from the Inaugural Ceremony to the sport events, the thrill hasn’t simmered down yet.
The chief guest of the Inaugural Ceremony was Mr. Jalaluddin Rizwi, former Member of the Indian Hockey Team, and the recipient of the Arjun Award, Vikram Award, Champions Trophy and Azlan Shah Trophy. The lamp was lit by the dignitaries, including Registrar Mr. Ravi Pandey and senior faculty member Prof Surya Prakash. The Chief Guest lauded NLIU’s efforts to encourage the sporting flair amongst students and launched the official Virudhaka T shirt.
The first day of the fest could hardly contain the brimming fervour shown by the participants. Team cheering, game strategizing, raucous ingenious slogans, the bonhomie at the food and entertainment stalls, and the electrifying musical vibes at the campus escalated the tempo to a higher level. With new friendships weaving their way between law students from various colleges, the healthy spirit of sportsmanship could be felt. With different teams winning various events, the continuous lookout for the score updates and team rankings did not inhibit the convivial interactions amongst potential competitors.
The added attraction of the fest is the Zip Lining Event at Kerwa Dam, that has been exclusively provided for the participants, with this zip lining being the longest in Asia, that is 520 metres. The spunk of the fest were the various informal events like Arm Wrestling, competitions in popular videogames like FIFA and Counter Strike, and customised T shirt stalls.
Virudhaka is bigger and better, with higher standard of hospitality ensured for the participants. With events like Hockey, Football, Table-Tennis, Cricket, Athletics, Carrom, Badminton, Snooker, Swimming, 5-a side football (women), Chess, Throwball, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Pool, the fest remains ever expansive. Virudhaka, hence proves true to what Lorii Mayers quotes, ‘True sportsmanship is excellence in motion!’
